The FEMALE star Leah Gibson inexplicably saves the day -- although she has to fight 10 armed and dangerous, very violent men in a hostage situation. How does she do that? I DON'T KNOW! The movie doesn't make it happen; it simply make it be this way... after all, she is a woman! Jon Voight and Jonathan Rhys are great as criminals, but unfortunately no space is given to them... because the woman needs to shine.
I don't understand people today. When Netflix AGAIN produces a movie starring criminals (serial killers, bank robbers, kidnappers, prostitutes, etc.) people love it! But when a studio produces a movie starring a great man, people hate it and call it fascist...

This documentary is extraordinary! It shows how manipulative a "good" person can be. Although it ends without finding the truth, it is obvious that the foster mother is the most monstrous liar! How sad what these kids and their relatives had been through.
The longer I could endure it was the "gay party" scene INSIDE a Presbyterian Church. Christians would say "too disgusting to be true". Gays would say "too good to be true". I simply say "too unbelievable to be watchable".
Why does the character interpreted by the TRANS actor is the responsible for bringing the "devil" to life and making the whole s**t happen? Was it by chance?
Well, I don't know if this movie is good, but a bad movie definitely it is not. It has this Noroi (2005) style which is very positive for those who appreciate the found footage "genre". The end is a little disappointing. But it's okay.
Here’s a movie where the monster comes from nowhere. There’s not an even slightest explanation about its origin or agenda. Other unexplainable thing: if there are three family members in risk of being eaten alive by a monster – a MAN, a woman and a little girl – which one of them would save the others? The woman? NO!!! Obviously the MAN. But not in this movie…
Usually, when movie directors draw on a twist it’s used in the end, so you say with certainty “this movie WAS a shit”. But for some unexplainable and stupid reason with this movie it was the contrary: the director decided to spare his “great” twist right in the beginning. So we experience a very weird sensation saying: “this movie WILL BE a shit” – although we don’t know if it will actually be yet. There’s a reason why a movie twist must be used in the end. I’m still wondering why the WHITE main character’s wife is a BLACK woman and why they have an INTERRACIAL daughter. Does anyone understand what it has to do with the whole story? Actually, he doesn’t even need to be married, cause the story has NOTHING to do with his family!
The best thing in this movie is that is has a lot of horror short movies in it. VERY short movies. So you don't have time to dislike them. Even the best of them (Tooth worms) is so short that makes you anxious for a sequel.
Well, after watching the trailer I totally agree with lotusland. There's something with contemporary art (especially movies) that makes us feel like we're in a classroom being educated.
Although the "criminal" theme has become so repetitive a formula in art (especially in movies), this movie was able do deal with the issue very singularly. The criminal is not treated as a victim -- because obviously no criminal is, but their victims! He is shown here as he really was, nothing more, nothing less. The main actor is great, and so is the whole movie (including the rural landscape).
Wait a minute: you abandon your wife and little daughter because you're in love with a man. Then this man dies tragically and your life turns into a hell. You try to reconnect with your now teenage daughter, but she hates and despises you and just want your money. You're alone, depressed and monstrously fat. Is life unjust? Is it God's fault? NO! You deserve it.
Lots of comments here (and everywhere else) questioning why two men instead of a couple or a single mother or father etc. Well, I love movies and literature and if there's something I have learned for sure is, if your story doesn't need something to work well, just don't include it and vive-versa. For instance, if a character is FAT and he has to escape running throughout the forest, but he has a lot of difficulties because of his weight, everybody understands why he NEEDED to be fat. Unfortunately this is not the case here. It feels like Mr. Shayamalan had some sort of obligations formalized with the LGBT community and nothing else.
After 25 first minutes the sensation is "this movie sucks". Then, during the next one hour and a half, a new sensation: "this movie is great! what a twist". And finally, in the last 15 minutes, here we go again: "this movie sucks". I'm not complaining. After all, the most part of ti was really good, but the beginning and the end could have been much better. One last thing: if you had hired a con artist and during his job someone had offered him ONE BILLION DOLLARS, what are the chances he would ignore the offer and keep working for you? This is one of the various inconsistencies you'll find in the screenplay.
